Staying Safe

Most people take food so much for granted in our everyday lives that it can be easy to forget how important safety is when it comes to eating.  With young children especially, a potential danger is choking. Another possibility to watch for is ingesting certain foods that might be harmful in some way to a particular person.  And of course common sense tells us that cleanliness and food freshness are vital to safe cooking and eating.  For an abundance of food safety information, go to http://www.foodsafety.gov/

Food Allergies

Allergic reactions to foods range from mild to severe. Food allergies are an overreaction of some peoples’ immune system to certain foods they eat, characterized by a range of adverse reactions.  While any food could potentially cause an allergic reaction, nine out of ten reactions are caused by only eight foods: milk, soy, eggs, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, fish and shellfish.  The U.S. Food Allergy Labeling Consumer Protection Act (FALCPA) requires food labels to identify all allergen ingredients.  Always read food label nutrition and allergens information.  The Asthma & Allergy Foundation of America offers more information at http://www.aafa.org/

Handled with Care

At each step in our manufacturing process, we take great care to make our products safe and healthful.  Our 24-hour security keeps tight control with a locked gate, security cameras and doors that require access cards.  When harvested goods first arrive, our lab tests include organolyptic analysis (look, feel, smell, taste) and we check for spots, size and more.  Metal detectors and X-ray machines reveal metal and other dense substances.  On the line, reject and gate-stop mechanisms prevent burnt seals and lack of proper seal.  Aspirators on our roasters remove debris.  Digital, time-coded video cameras track product lines with to-the-second accuracy.  In a nutshell, Hoody’s takes safety very seriously.
