Nearly A Century Ago

Early in the 20th Century in Oregon, Dutch immigrant A.C. Hoodenpyle worked hard to provide for his family.  In 1913 he started selling freshly roasted peanuts and found an eager market for them.  Known as “Hoody” by his friends and satisfied customers, he branched out into other peanut products and opened a storefront.

Hoody’s goods quickly came to be known as the finest quality nut products in the Northwest.  Hoodenpyle gave credit for that to his loyal customers and dedicated employees.  As his business grew, he continued to add new nut products.  He expanded his facility several times to keep up with this progress.

Growing The Company

After Hoodenpyle’s passing, his family sold the business to Valentine Brown, a local vendor also dedicated to quality and service.  Valentine drew on his experience with processing equipment to expand the company’s capabilities, including new packaging and expedited delivery systems.  His tenure saw considerable growth and strengthening of high regard for Hoody’s products.

Modern Hoody’s In A Nutshell

In 1994, Valentine Brown, Jr. sold Hoody’s to a group that evolved into Harvest Manor Farms, LLC.  To reflect the changing marketplace and our increased variety of products, we added Original Nut House, All American, Treat Time and Manor Creek Naturals brands, as well as a Private Brands Program for select clients. 

With 2006 product sales of $140 million, Harvest Manor Farms is making its mark by combining the customer-oriented tradition of a 1913 peanut vendor with innovative packaging and product depth to meet the needs of today’s savvy snack consumer.  We sell 75 million pounds of nuts & snacks each year and are growing at an annual rate of 10% – well above the 5% growth rate of the overall nut industry.

Under the Harvest Manor Farms umbrella, Hoody’s remains the flagship brand of our nuts & snacks family.  After all these years, it’s still all about fresh, great-tasting nuts & nut products delivered to customers with quality service and solid value.
